Facebook Messenger
Overview:
Facebook launched his new smartphone app called “Messenger” last month (August 2011). It allows smartphone users to send and receive messages directly through their device without paying for text messaging charges from providers. The Facebook messenger is available in the USA and United Kingdom. Facebook will launch the Messenger in Australia perhaps this month.
Facebook Messenger includes access to Facebook inbox messages, the option to add friends to a conversation by making it a group chat and a choice to insert images or a present location into a thread at anytime. The new social networking is available for iPhone and Android smartphones.
Facebook´s Messenger competes with Apples iMessenger and the Blackberry Messenger. Also with Samsung´s ChatON app, but it isn´t launched yet.
The big advantage for Facebook are the 750 to 800 million Facebook users.
The three main features for the Facebook Messenger are:
- Reach friends right on their phones – Send a message to your friends with Messenger app, it goes directly to their mobile phones, so you stay in touch no matter where you go. Message any of your Facebook friends or anyone in your mobile contacts.
- Get and send messages fast – Get to your messages with one click. Mobile notifications also help make sure you never miss a message, from timely questions to last-minute changes of plans.
- Make plans with groups on the go – Trying to plan a night out with friends? Instead of sending individual messages to all the different people in your group, now you can add everyone to one simple conversation, so everyone can be in on the plan.
